Commute Survivor
The Commute Survivor All Stars – The Final Alliance
rideshare promotion, which ran the entire month of May, drew a record number
of participants. Commuters
to Irvine Spectrum registered in the promotion and were given several opportunities to win prizes totaling almost $7,000. They also received a Personalized Commute Profile meant to help them find a better way to commute to work. In the end, 99.9 percent of those that participated were either already ridesharing or pledged to try some form of commuting other than driving alone. A huge thank you to all that participated and congratulations to all our winners. CLICK HERE for more details about the promotion itself and to see all the winners.
Spectrumotion will be sponsoring a
similar promotion next year about the same time so keep your eyes open for
that. In the mean time, please call us or visit our website, www.72share.com , if we can assist you
with any commute related questions or issues.

Metrolink
Fare Restructure & Increase
The Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA) governing board approved an increase in Metrolink fares that took effect on July 1, 2005 to help
offset higher fuel prices. The commuter railroad had previously
approved a plan for annual increases along with a restructuring of its fare
policy beginning July 1, 2005 .
Under the restructuring plan, all fares will be based on a measurement of the
driving distance between stations, rather than the current zone-based system.
At the same time, the Metrolink board also approved the elimination of
weekday non-rush hour fares. Discounted fares for seniors and the disabled
are not affected and discounts for weekend travel will also remain.

15 Year Anniversary
Irvine Transportation Center
submitted by Ali Taghavi from
City of Irvine
The Irvine Transportation Center (ITC) is celebrating 15
years of providing top-notch transportation services to the public. The
center is always bustling with commuters who use all forms of transportation
including Metrolink, Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) bus
service, Amtrak, bicycling, vanpooling, carpooling, and even walking.
“What started out as a simple Amtrak stop has turned into a multi-modal
facility,” said Rick Sandzimier, Irvine ’s
Project Development Administrator. “Metrolink began commuter services
here in Irvine along the Orange
County line in
1994 and added the Inland Empire service a year
later. Today 53 trains stop at the station daily. The OCTA
operates five bus routes to and from the station.”
Paul Yoder, an avid train rider for more than a year says, “I was tired of
driving from Riverside to Irvine
and with the congestion getting worse it just made
sense to find an alternative form of transportation. I ride the train
from Riverside to Irvine
and then I take the bus from the ITC to the
Spectrum.” Two big advantages to commuting that Yoder pointed out was
the money saved and less commuting stress.
As July quickly approaches, the ITC is busy preparing for its 15-year milestone,
a mark that will continually grow to meet the needs of the community. A
recognition event is set for Thursday, July 21 at 4 p.m. at the ITC that will feature a documentary photo
exhibit, information booths, raffles, giveaways, refreshments and a short
program. Mayor Beth Krom will present opening remarks at
5 p.m.

Carpool Lane Violation Fine Increase
New signs are being posted throughout
Orange
County
indicating the $341 minimum carpool lane violation fine increase. The increase became law January 2005, even though many signs have yet to be posted. An individual’s driving record will dictate the actual amount of the fine. Each county court established specific fine schedules. For more information visit www.courtinfo.ca.gov.
