California Rideshare Week

Nearly 600 commuters and 100 employers in the Irvine Spectrum participated in Rideshare Week 2008. Some tried ridesharing for the first time, while others were long-time rideshare participants who have discovered so many benefits to ridesharing that they won't return to driving alone.

These lucky commuters each won a $250 gift card in a random drawing
Kofax won a $500 gift card for their participation in Rideshare Week 2008.
Ronald Halcrow works for Sage Sortware and commutes to his jobsite by alternating between biking and riding the train. When he rides his bike, it's an 18 mile one-way ride. Ronald has been ridsharing now for 11 years and said his favorite things about taking the train and riding his bike are, "Reading books on the train and not having to deal with traffic. When riding my bike I can think and let my mind wander, plus it's great exercise." Ronald will be using his gift card to purchase an orange iPod Nano to enjoy during his train ride.

Judy Faulk is a carpooler working at Wonderware. She has been carpooling to work since April and decided to give it a try when gas prices sky-rocketed earlier this year. "I really enjoy the fact that time goes by so fast when there is someone else in the car. Having the company is really nice. I'm going to start promoting ridesharing to all my co-workers." Judy mentioned that she will use her gift card to go mall-hopping and is looking forward to spending her $250.
Zach Whisman has been carpooling 100 miles everday (roundtrip) to and from his job at Kofax for the past 5 years. It currently takes him about 1 hour to get to work in the morning. He said his favorite thing about carpooling is to have someone else to share the driving with. We asked Zach how he'll be using his gift card and he replied with a smile, "I'm giving it to my wife for a shopping spree." Zach Whisman.... smart commuter, smarter husband!
